TOOLKIT FOR LEAK JOURNALISM
“Leak Journalism” isn’t a new concept. It’s one of main arms of investigative journalism and basic of press-freedom. It’s about globality of information, human rights and against censorship. No companies nor governments has got a right for hide an information which concerning public.
Data leaks increased with technology and internet. Today, nearly impossible to censorhip the information. It’s nightmare of all people who wants to keeping information in their hands.
Here is some tools for leak journalist, used by The Guardian, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and Politico.
Signal: Signal is a free app provides privacy texting and calls. Developers of Signal, publishing user data requests from governments and legal authorities and their answers for protect the transparancy of service. You can find more security tips for using Signal, my another blog post, here. Also you can use Wickr.Me and Session apps for “real” privacy messaging.
Secure Drop: A project of The Guardian, for sending private documents. It’s using Tor technology and no needs any personal information or meta-datas like IPs.
Proton Mail: A privacy and security based e-mail provider service from Switzerland, where is the land of freedom.
Attention! This services and other privacy and security based services which I don’t mentioned in this blog post, doesn’t protect you incase of this situations:
If anyone spying on your screen at the back side. (Physically.)
If anyone sniffing your internet connection, may understand you connect the Tor network.
If only two people know the information which you will leak, the third person can understand the leaker is you.
If you keep the leaked informations and documents on your computer or smart phone, authorities (for example courts or police cops) may inspect and find them. Don’t keep on your disks, use secure cloud services.
